Spartans Team Effort Shows In Victory Over Broncos

SAN JOSE, Calif.Tatiana Robinson and Learden Lee recorded double-digit kills as it took a team effort in San José State’s 3-1 win over Boise State (18-25, 25-20, 25-21, 25-23) Thursday night inside Spartan Gym.

  • Robinson played the final three sets of the match to lead the team with 12 kills. She hit .522 for the three sets with 23 attempts and no hitting errors.
    Lee hit .476 for the match with 11 kills on 21 tries and only one hitting error.
  • Lolo Fonua had nine kills in three-plus sets played before an injury forced her out of the match.
  • Naima Foster added nine kills in the match, including the match winner.
  • Morgan Castaneda came off the bench to record five kills
  • The Spartans outblocked the Broncos 10-4, getting seven blocks from Lee (3-4) and three blocks from Robinson (1-2) and Fonua (0-3).
  • Talita Gonçalves led the defense with 23 digs, her fifth match this season with 20+ digs.
  • Katie O’Sullivan recorded a career-best four service aces to go with nine digs.
  • Setter Fatimah Hall had 43 assists and nine digs, one shy of her 12th double-double of the season.
  • After losing the first set, the Spartans rebounded in the second by jumping out to a 5-0 lead and never looked back, winning 25-20 on a Castaneda kill.
  • The third set was a battle early before SJSU grew the lead from 11-10 and never gave it up in the 25-21 win on a Lee kill.
  • SJSU trailed much of the fourth set, down 16-13, before slowly chipping away and exchanging the lead with Boise State. The Spartans took the final lead at 23-22 on an Ava Hewitt-Smith kill and needed two match points before sealing the win at 25-23 on Foster’s ninth kill of the match.

UP NEXT – The Spartans finish the home portion of the 2025 schedule this Saturday with a match against Utah State, the Mountain West Regular Season Champions. Saturday is also the final home match for Alyssa Bjork and Randilyn Reeves, who will be honored prior to the noon start inside Spartan Gym. Admission is free for all.
