Spartans Fall to No. 17 Michigan State Despite Second Half Surge

EAST LANSING, Mich.Colby Garland 22 points on 10-16 shooting, including a perfect 2-for-2 from three-point range, to lead the San José State men’s basketball team (0-3, 0-0 MW) to fall 79–60 to No. 17 Michigan State (3-0, 0-0 Big Ten) on Thursday night at the Breslin Center.

Yaphet Moundi delivered a strong double-double performance, posting 13 points and 11 rebounds while going 11-for-16 at the free throw line. Jermaine Washington added nine points and five assists, while Sadraque NgaNga chipped in eight points and five rebounds.

After falling behind early, SJSU responded in the second half with an improved offensive rhythm, shooting 42.3% from the field and 50% from beyond the arc after intermission. The Spartans from San José showed resilience, outscoring Michigan State 37–33 in the final period.

As a team, San José State shot 35.7% from the field and 29.6% from three, compared to Michigan State’s 48.3% shooting performance. SJSU also held MSU to 24% from three.
