RIVERSIDE, Calif.—Four Spartans scored in double figures, and Amira Brown recorded her first double-double of the season as the San José State women’s basketball team fought until the end in a 69-55 loss at California Baptist Friday night.
- Brown scored a season-high 12 points and grabbed a career-high 12 rebounds in her first double-double of the season and second of her Spartan career.
- Rylei Waugh scored 12 points off the bench to also lead the team in scoring.
- Maya Anderson contributed 11 points, while Allie Cummins added 10 points to round out the Spartans in double-figure scoring.
- Anderson and Amelie Sitterud each grabbed eight rebounds, while Waugh got six.
- The Spartans (0-2) outrebounded the Lancers (4-0), 53-37.
- San José State got out to an early 8-7 lead on a Harisa Mehmedovic field goal, and extended the lead to 16-11 on two Cummins made free throws. CBU then scored eight of the next 10 points to take a 19-18 lead after the first quarter.
- SJSU trailed by eight at 28-20 in the second quarter, before scoring 10 of the final 12 points, the final on a Mehmedovic layup to go into halftime all tied at 30-30. Carla Fuster scored her first collegiate points during the run with a three-pointer to cut the score to 30-28.
- The Spartans scored the first eight points of the third quarter to their biggest lead of the game at 38-30 with a made Cummins three-pointer at the 8:18 mark. However, CBU used a 9-2 run to close the quarter and lead 53-47.
- The fourth quarter was the only one that the two teams did not tie the score or trade the lead.
UP NEXT – San José State opens the home portion of the schedule on November 19, UC Santa Barbara visits the Provident Credit Union Event Center. Tip-off will be at 6 p.m., an hour earlier than originally published.
