RIVERSIDE, Calif. - The fourth seeded Spartans will face the third seeded Grand Canyon in the championship match of the 2025 WAC Tournament today at 1 p.m. on ESPN+ in Riverside, California from CBU Stadium. The tournament marks Head Coach Simon Tobin’s final WAC Tournament before he retires at the end of the season.
The Spartans have now reached the WAC Tournament championship match for the second year in a row and the third time in the last four years. The Spartans are looking for their first conference championship since 2003.
The Spartans took down the one seed Cal Baptist 3-2 in overtime in the semifinals and the fourth seed San Diego State 4-0 in the quarterfinals to reach the championship. The Spartans have now won 12 games this season, their most since 2003.
SJSU drew Grand Canyon 1-1 when they faced off earlier this season from Phoenix, Ariz. After trailing 1-0, Javier Lopez headed in the equalizer for his first career-goal in the 70th minute.
The Spartans had five players earn All-WAC honors. Angel Iniguez, Gilberto Rivera and Arnold Matshazi were named All-WAC First Team while Niklas Dossmann was named All-WAC Second Team. Additionally, Fernando Duarte was named to the All-WAC Freshman Team.
