Spartans Fall to Nevada on the Road

RENO, Nev. - Tama Amisone completed four of five passes for a career-high 59 yards and added 23 rushing yards with his first career touchdown to lead the San José State football team (3-7, 2-4 MW) in a 55-10 loss to Nevada (2-8, 1-5 MW) on Saturday afternoon from Mackay Stadium.

Nevada struck first with a 66-yard interception return by linebacker Nakian Jackson midway through the first quarter and capitalized on four Spartan interceptions overall. The Wolf Pack led 31–0 at halftime.

San José State broke through in the third quarter with a 46-yard field goal from Mathias Brown, capping a seven-play, 52-yard drive. In the fourth quarter, Amisone engineered the Spartans’ lone touchdown drive of the day, finishing with a 12-yard scoring run with just over a minute to play. 

Walker Eget went 11-of-23 for 74 yards through the air, while also rushing for 33 yards. Steve Chavez-Soto led the ground attack with 47 yards on eight carries, averaging nearly six yards per attempt. Kyri Shoels and Jackson Canaan paced the receiving corps with a combined 77 yards.

Defensively, Noah McNeal-Franklin led San José State with seven total tackles, while Ethan Powell added five stops, including a tackle for loss. 

  • This was the first time the Spartans had been shutout in the first half under Ken Niumatolo
  • Brown’s 46-yard field goal was a career-long
  • Isiah Revis and Justin Stearns each had a tackle for a loss
  • Trent Carrizosa had a punt downed at the one
