SAN JOSE, Calif. - Yaphet Moundi’s recorded a season-high 21 points to go along with 11 rebounds for his fourth double-double in the Spartans first five games to lead the San José State men’s basketball team (2-3, 0-0 MW) in a 80-66 victory over Southern (2-4, 0-0 SWAC) Friday night from the Provident Credit Union Event Center.
Jermaine Washington added 17 points while Ben Roseborough and Colby Garland contributed 16 points. Sadraque NgaNga tallied eight points, 11 rebounds and a block. After leading 42–35 at halftime, San José State took control in the second half, pushing the lead to as much as 19. The Spartans led for 36 minutes of the game.

- Coming into the game, Southern averaged 99.5 points per game and were shooting .395 from three. The Spartans held the Jaguars to 66 points and 25 percent from beyond the arc

- NgaNga’s 11 rebounds set a new season-high and marked the third time in his career recording 10 or more rebounds in a game

- Washington went 4-5 from three, tying his career-high for most made threes in a game
- Roseborough’s 16 points set a new career-high
