Spartans Fall to Tulsa in Acrisure Holiday Invitational Opening Matchup

PALM SPRINGS, Calif. - Colby Garland scored 13 points to lead the San José State men’s basketball team (2-4, 0-0 MW) in a 81-51 loss to Tulsa (5-1, 0-0 AAC) Tuesday morning from Acrisure Stadium in the first game of the Acrisure Holiday Invitational. 

San José State opened the game with an early four point lead. However, Tulsa shifted momentum with an 8–0 run and the Spartans found themselves trailing 43–33 at the half..

Tulsa pushed the lead to 15, but the Spartans responded with an 8-0 run of their own to make it a 48–41 game. However, with 15:05 left, the Golden Hurricane strung together an 18–0 run, extending the lead to 25 and putting the game out of reach.

  • The Spartans only scored 18 points in the second half and shot 33.3 percent from the field
  • Garland has scored in double figures in every game this season
  • Yaphet Moundi ended with eight points and six rebounds, concluding his double-double streak at three
