Spartans Lockdown Defensively in Win Over Loyola Chicago to Conclude Acrisure Holiday Invitational

PALM SPRINGS, Calif. - Colby Garland recorded 15 points, six assists and four rebounds to lead the San José State men’s basketball team (3-4, 0-0 MW) in a 63-51 victory over Loyola Chicago (1-7, 0-0 A-10) Wednesday morning from Acrisure Stadium in the second and final game of the Acrisure Holiday Invitational. 

The Spartans trailed by as many as nine points early into the game, but cut the deficit to two at halftime. In the second half, the Spartans locked in defensively, holding Loyola Chicago to just 33% shooting while forcing 12 turnovers in the period and 21 for the game, converting them into an overwhelming 31–6 advantage in points off turnovers. The Spartans steadily built a lead that grew as large as 16 with just over four minutes remaining. 

Jermaine Washington also added 15 points, knocking down multiple threes in the game. Yaphet Moundi scored 10 points and grabbed four rebounds while recording four steals and a block. Sadraque NgaNga posted 11 points and six rebounds, and Ben Roseborough added eight points, including the go-ahead three in the second half.
