Spartans Back In Action Friday at Portland State

The San José State women’s basketball team returns to the court after Thanksgiving with a late Friday afternoon game at Portland State. This will be the eighth meeting between the two schools. The Spartans stay on the road with a game at Big 10 opponent 22/22 Washington on December 1.

ABOUT PORTLAND STATE: The Vikings enter Friday’s game with a 1-4 record. Their lone win came against Willamette, 89-52. The team has played Hawaii (L, 74-63), Colorado (L, 77-45), Air Force (L, 65-55) and Utah Tech (L, 71-63). Head coach Karlie Burris is in her first year at the school but is familiar with San José State after spending the past four seasons as an assistant coach for Lindy La Rocque at UNLV.

The Spartans trailed 42-11 at halftime before outscoring the Vikings 40-38 in the second half. Mikaylah Wilson led the team with 14 points, followed by Megan Anderson with 10.

BLOCK PARTY!: The Spartans blocked a season-high nine blocks in the game at Pepperdine on November 23. The nine blocks are the most by a Mountain West team this season and the most by an SJSU team since the nine recorded in a 72-49 win at Air Force on January 20, 2016.

WAUGH SOLID OFF THE BENCH: Rylei Waugh is a leader for the Spartans coming off the bench. She is second on the team in scoring at 11.3 points per game and second in minutes played at 29.6 per game. She has led the team in scoring in two games - at California Baptist with 12 points and at Pepperdine with 10 points. Waugh is 22-for-26 from the free throw line and has grabbed 25 rebounds, tied for second on the team.

ANDERSON LEADING SPARTANS: Maya Anderson leads the team in scoring at 13.3 points per game and in rebounding at 8.3 pg. She led the team at BYU with career-bests of 17 points and 8 rebounds. Anderson also led the Spartans in the home opener with 12 points and nine rebounds.
