PORTLAND, Ore.—Spartan Rylei Waugh had a career night on the hardwood, but the San José State women’s basketball team hit a dry spell in the third quarter and fell at Portland State, 75-64, Friday evening at Viking Pavilion.
- Waugh scored a career-high 18 points to lead the Spartans as she was 7-for-12 from the field. She also grabbed a career-best four steals and dished out a team-best three assists.
- She scored 12 of her 18 points in the fourth quarter, going 5-for-8 from the field and grabbing all four of her steals.
- Three Spartans scored nine points in the game – Maya Anderson, Gabriela Pato and Allie Cummins.
- Amira Brown and Waugh led the team with eight rebounds each.
- The Spartans blocked six shots, led by Pato with a season-high three blocks. Harisa Mehmedovic blocked two shots, and Kaliyah Dillard recorded her eighth block of the season.
- San José State took a 42-38 lead on a Cummins three-pointer with 7:44 left in the third quarter. The Spartans then hit an iceberg, not making a shot for the rest of the quarter and scoring just two points on made free throws by Mehmedovic and McKenna Simons.
- San José State got within seven points of the Vikings early in the fourth quarter but could not get any closer.
