
SAN JOSE, Calif.- Angel Iniguez and Arnold Matshazi both found the back of the net to lead the San José State men’s soccer team (10-3-4, 3-2-2 WAC) in a 2-0 victory over Air Force (1-12-3, 0-6-1 WAC) Sunday afternoon from the Spartan Soccer Complex to close out the regular season.
San José State dominated from start to finish, outshooting the Falcons 18–2 and controlling nearly 70% of possession. The Spartans’ relentless attack and organized defense secured their seventh shutout of the season.
The Spartans opened the scoring in the 20th minute when Matshazi netted his 10th goal of the season from the top of the box, capitalizing off an Air Force turnover. Early in the second half, Iniguez doubled the lead in the 52nd minute, finishing calmly after a setup from Amir Anwary—his first assist of the year.
Goalkeeper Edgar Guerra was sharp between the posts, recording his seventh clean sheet of the season and improving to 10–3–2 on the year. The Spartans’ back line, led by Niklas Dossmann and Javier Lopez, limited Air Force to just one shot on target.
- The match marked Head Coach Simon Tobin’s final home game, as he is set to retire at the end of the season
- The Spartans also celebrated Kaylob Walker, Tomislav Jozinovic, Eamon Fakhri, Anthony Guzman, Guerra, Iniguez, Dossmann and Lopez for Senior Day
- With Matshazi earning his 10th goal of the season, the Spartans have now had a player score 10 or more goals in back-to-back seasons
- Iniguez’s goal was his eighth of the season and puts him up to 22 points on the year
- Iniguez recorded 14 points in conference play which was the most in the WAC
- Anwary’s assist was also his first career point
- The Spartans have reached 10 wins for the third time in the last five seasons
- The Spartans will be the fourth seed in the WAC Tournament
