SAN JOSE, Calif.- Sam Keightley has been named WCC Newcomer of the Week, the conference announced on Tuesday morning. This marks the first player of the week award the Spartans have received this season.
In the Spartans' 14-9 victory over Air Force at the US Air Force Academy this past Sunday, Keightley led the Spartans with five goals. His five goals set a new career-high for the freshman. Keightley took 11 shots in the match. No other Spartan had more than two goals in the game.
The No. 6 ranked Spartans are now 4-1 in WCC play. If the Spartans defeat No. 12 California Baptist on the road next weekend, the Spartans will be crowned co-regular season champions and head into the WCC tournament as a No. 2 seed.
