Five Spartans Earn All-WAC Honors

SAN JOSE, Calif.- Angel Iniguez, Gilberto Rivera and Arnold Matshazi have been named All-WAC First Team while Niklas Dossmann was named All-WAC Second Team, announced by the conference on Friday. Additionally, Fernando Duarte has been named to the WAC All-Freshman Team.

The Spartans completed the regular season with a record of 10-3-4, earning double digit wins for the third time under Head Coach Simon Tobin in 12 seasons and qualified for the WAC Tournament for the ninth season in a row. The Spartans are looking to return to the WAC Tournament championship game for the second season in a row and third time in the last four years. In what will be coach Tobin’s final season, the Spartans are seeking their first conference championship since 2003.

The Spartans earned the fourth seed in the Tournament and will face the fifth seed San Diego State on Sunday, Nov. 9, at 7 p.m. in Riverside, California. The game can be watched on ESPN+.

Angel Iniguez, Midfielder, Senior, Daly City, Calif., Sacred Heart Cathedral Prep

  • Named First Team All-WAC in 2023, 2024 and 2025
  • First player in SJSU to be named first team all-conference in three consecutive seasons
  • Ranked No. 58 in TopDrawerSoccer's 2025 midseason top players to watch list
  • Named WAC Offensive Player of the Week and to TopDrawerSoccer’s Team of the Week (Oct. 28) after scoring twice against SDSU and scoring the game-winner against UNLV
  • Named to TopDrawerSoccer’s Team of the Week (Oct. 7) after scoring a goal and earning two assists in the Spartans’ win over Cal Baptist
  • Tallied eight goals and six assists on the season, leading the Spartans in points
  • Named WAC Offensive Player of the Year in 2024, becoming the first Spartan to ever win a player of the year award
  • WAC Preseason Offensive Player of the Year in 2024 and 2025
  • Has 27 goals and 24 assists in his career
  • Iniguez's 24 career assists puts him tied for 6th all-time at SJSU

Gilberto Rivera, Midfielder, Junior, Hayward, Calif., Mount Eden High School

  • Named First Team All-WAC
  • Tallied two goals and six assists on the season
  • Named WAC Defensive Player of the Week (Sept. 16) after the Spartans’ shutout CSUN
  • Also named to the WAC All-Tournament Team in 2024

Arnold Matshazi, Forward, Sophomore, Milton Keynes, England, Oakgrove School

  • Named First Team All-WAC
  • Led the Spartans with 10 goals on the season, becoming just the second Spartan to score double-digit goals since 2017
  • Matshazi is the first Spartan since Chad Harper and Amad Kebreab in 1996 to score double-digit goals in their first season with the Spartans
  • One of three players in the WAC to score 10 or more goals on the season
  • Named WAC Offensive Player of the Week (Sept. 30) after scoring the game winning goal against UC Davis
  • Ranked No. 98 in TopDrawerSoccer's 2025 midseason top players to watch list
  • Scored two goals in the Spartans’ 2-2 draw against No. 3 Stanford (Sept. 17)

Niklas Dossmann, Defender, Senior, Belmont, Calif., Michigan

  • Second Team All-WAC
  • Named to the WAC Preseason All-Conference Team
  • Led the Spartans in recording seven shutouts on the season
  • Appeared and started in all 17 games for the Spartans on the season
  • Only sat on the bench for eight minutes this season

Fernando Duarte, Midfielder, Freshman, San Lorenzo, Calif., KIPP King Collegiate High School

  • Named to All-WAC Freshman Team
  • Appeared in 11 games, starting in four of them
  • Played in six out of seven conference games, drawing starts in three of them
