NORTHRIDGE, Calif.— Emma Fantousis won in a fierce three-set match in singles and doubles to lead the San José State women's tennis team on the second day of the CSUN Invitational on Saturday morning.
On the second day of the invitational, the Spartans faced New Mexico in doubles and Long Beach State and New Mexico in singles.
- Fantousis and doubles partner Duru Durgun quickly defeated their opponents, Vianca and Vivica Corley, 6-3
- Fantousis turned the tide in her second set and came back, minimizing her opponent's scoring ability, 3-6, 6-0, 6-2 against Johanna Heismair.
- Tara Mihaljevic defeated her opponent, Daisy Carpenter, in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4.
- Soledad Fayos Capilla fell short against LBSU's Thea Jagare, 6-3, 7-6 (7-5).
- Durgun was bested by her opponent, Diana De Simone, 6-3, 6-2.
- Cristina Mateos Losada came up short in a tight three-set match, 6-3, 4-6, 6-3, against Paulina Martiniessi.
- Katarina Brajovic competed against New Mexico's Coumba Ben Niangadou in singles and fell short 7-5, 6-3.
- Fayos Capilla and Mateos Losada were bested by Ana Veroux and Lee Malazdra, 6-3
- Mihaljevic and Brajovic fell short, 6-2, against Coumba Ben Niangadou.
UP NEXT: The Spartans will conclude the CSUN Invitational, tomorrow, Nov. 9, facing Long Beach State in doubles and LMU in singles, beginning at noon.
