NORTHRIDGE, Calif.— Soledad Fayos Capilla and Cristina Mateos Losada both won in straight sets in singles to lead the San José State women's tennis team on the first day of the CSUN Invitational on Friday afternoon.
On the first day of the invitational, the Spartans faced LMU and UCI in doubles and UCI in singles.
- Fayos Capilla quickly defeated Carolyna Fowler, 6-3, 6-2.
- Mateos Losada earned the Spartans another singles win, overcoming her opponent, Maily Huynh, 6-4, 6-2.
- Duru Durgun and Fayos Capilla fell short in doubles against LMU's Ada Piestrzynska and Anastasia Bozova, 6-2.
- Emma Fantousis and Tara Mihaljevic were bested by LMU's Kim Zahraj and Camilia Samel-Druz, 6-2.
- Mateos Losada and Katarina Brajovic came up short against UCI's Maily Huynh and Bella Pitchford, 6-3.
- Durgun fell short 6-2, 7-6 (5-2).
- Fantousis was bested 7-6 (9-6), 7-6 (9-6).
- Mihaljevic lost 6-2, 6-3.
- Brajovic came up short 6-3, 7-5.
UP NEXT: The Spartans will face Long Beach in singles and New Mexico in doubles tomorrow for the second day of the CSUN Invitational.
