IRVINE, Calif.— Sam Keightley recorded four goals to lead the No. 7 San José State men's water polo team (11-7, 5-1 WCC) in an 11-9 loss against No. 16 UC Irvine (15-11, 2-3 Big West) on Sunday afternoon on the road.
- Sam Keightley has been the Spartans' leading scorer in each of the past three games.
- Throughout the game, the Spartans closely matched UC Irvine's scoring efforts, but fell short by the fourth period.
- Contributing to the offensive efforts, Giancarlo Marquez, László Szieben, Louis Fehrensen, Zalan Hegedus and Mateja Bosić each tallied one goal.
- Maro Tiozzo, Marquez, Samu Biros, Bence Kristok and Bosić each drew an assist.
- On the defensive front, Marquez drew a team high of four exclusions, and Mitchell Keightley followed with two
- Szieben recorded two steals and Mael Suchet, Fehrensen and Hegedus one.
- In the net, Brendon Gyapjas tallied eight saves.
UP NEXT: The Spartans will set their sights on the WCC Tournament in USAFA, Colo., starting on Nov. 21. The Spartans will be the second seed in the tournament.
