SAN JOSE, Calif. - Colby Garland finished with 27 points, five rebounds and four assists, including 10 points in overtime while going a perfect 8-of-8 at the foul line in the extra period, to lead the San José State men’s basketball team (5-5, 0-0 MW) in a 89-83 victory over Long Beach State (2-9, 0-2 Big West) Tuesday night from the Provident Credit Union Event Center.

The contest featured 14 lead changes and 18 ties, with neither team leading by more than nine points at any stage. Both squads entered halftime tied at 39–39. The Spartans trailed by nine with just under three minutes left in regulation, but finished the half on a 9-0 run to force overtime.
In overtime, Sadraque NgaNga scored the go-ahead lay-up for the Spartans. SJSU locked down defensively, holding LBSU to just six points in the period. Garland’s 10 points in OT propelled the Spartans to secure the win.
Jermaine Washington added 14 points and six assists, while Yaphet Moundi contributed 18 points, going 8-of-10 from the free-throw line. Douglas Langford provided a spark offensively, recording three blocks in the game.
- With the win, the Spartans are back to a .500 win percentage for the first time since December, 2024
- This also marked the second consecutive Spartan victory over The Beach and first home win over Long Beach State since February 11, 1991
- This is the Spartans’ first overtime game this season
