SPARTANS FACE OTTERS ON THURSDAY: The San José State women’s basketball team faces Cal State Monterey Bay this Thursday, December 11, as the two schools meet up for the first time in the regular season inside the Provident Credit Union Event Center.
San José State is looking to break into the win column over the next 11 days. This is the final home game for 10 days as the Spartans will play at CSUN this Saturday. The team then opens Mountain West play at Wyoming next Wednesday. SJSU returns home to finish the non-conference schedule with Sacramento State on Sunday, December 21.
ABOUT CAL STATE MONTEREY BAY: The Otters enter Thursday night’s game with a 4-2 overall record and a 1-1 mark in the CCAA. The team brings a two-game winning streak into the game after defeating Cal-Maritime, 85-32, Tuesday evening, and Cal State San Marcos, 63-52, last Saturday. Head coach Sarah Hopkins-Chery is in her fourth year at the school with an 18-71 record. The former England U16, U20 and Senior player was named the Great Britain U20 women’s head coach.

WHO WANTS TO SCORE TONIGHT? Through eight games this season, five different Spartans have led the team in scoring. Rylei Waugh and Maya Anderson have each led the team in has led the team in three games. Amira Brown scored 12 points in the win at CBU, while Gabriela Pato scored 11 to led the Spartans at No. 21 Washington. Katarina Anderson came off the bench at California and scored 10 points to lead SJSU.
K. ANDERSON MAKING A DIFFERENCE: Katarina Anderson is making a difference on the Spartan team in just her first year with the Spartan program. She led the team in scoring at California with10 points on 4-of-7 shooting from the field in 21 minutes of action. She was second on the team in scoring at Pepperdine with nine points where she went 3-for-4 from the field. Anderson is averaging 4.1 points and 10.5 minutes played per game.
UP NEXT: The Spartans travel to Southern California for a non-conference game at CSUN this Saturday, December 13, at 2 p.m. San José State then opens the Mountain West schedule with a game at Wyoming on Wednesday, December 17 at 6:30 p.m. MT/5:30 p.m. PT.
