LARAMIE, Wyo.—Stella Sgro led a trio of Spartan scorers with a career-high 12 points as the San José State women’s basketball team opened Mountain West play Wednesday night with an 83-60 loss at Wyoming.
- Sgro scored in double figures for the first time this season, going 4-for-6 from the field and 3-for-5 from three-point range.
- Carla Fuster scored in double figures for the first time in her collegiate career with 11 points, making two three-point field goals.
- Amira Brown rounded out the trio with 10 points as she was 4-for-9 from the field with two made free throws. She scored in double figures for the third time this season and first since the UC Santa Barbara game.
- Mecca Alexander scored a career-best seven points, making three of her four attempts from the field and hit the first of eight Spartan threes in the game.
- Amelie Sitterud scored a season-high six points, making her first two three-pointers of the season.
- Gabriela Pato led the team with seven rebounds and blocked a team-best three shots.
- Allie Cummins dished out a season-best six assists, while Maya Anderson and Brown had two assists.
- The game was tied, 12-12, after the first quarter, and the Spartans took an early lead in the second quarter with a Fuster three-pointer to make it 15-12. The team took a one-point lead at 27-26 on two made Brown free throws before the Cowgirls retook the lead for good.
UP NEXT – The Spartans return to the Provident Credit Union Event Center this Sunday to face Sacramento State in the final non-conference game of the season. Tip time is set for 2 p.m. Fans unable to attend can watch on NBC Sports Bay Area and the Mountain West Network.
