SAN JOSE, Calif.- The San José State men’s basketball team (5-6, 0-0 MW) will open Mountain West conference play against New Mexico (9-2, 0-0 MW) at The Pit on Saturday at 6 p.m. The game can be watched on the Mountain West Network and heard on KTRB 860 AM.
- The Spartans are looking to return to postseason play for the third time in four years which would be the best stretch in program history
- Last season, the Spartans competed in the NIT for the first time since 1981
- The Spartans' 46 wins over their last three seasons is the most wins since the team won 46 games from 1985-88 while in the Big West conference
- The Spartans concluded non-conference play with a record of 5-6
- The Spartans are 4-0 when facing Quad 4 opponents, but have not won against an opponent Quad 3 or higher

- Colby Garland is averaging 18.9 points per game, ranking second in the Mountain West and 55th in the nation
- Garland has scored 10 or more points in 10 out of 11 games this season, scored 20+ in six games and 30 in one game
- Garland has scored 20 or more points in each of his last three games. Garland's six 20 point games so far this season are tied for first in the MW with Utah State's MJ Collins

- Moundi had a double-double in three consecutive games (vs. #17 Michigan State, Bethesda & Southern), becoming the first Spartan also since Michael Steadman in 2019 to accomplish the feat
- Moundi is averaging 13.5 points and 8.2 rebounds so far this season
- Moundi's 8.2 rebounds per game is the third most in the Mountain West
- Moundi is 58-77 from the foul line, leading the conference and top-50 in the nation both free throws made and free throws attempted
- Moundi has improved his free throw percentage from .514 last season to .753 this season
- Moundi scored a career-high 26 against Stanford in 26 minutes of action. Moundi shot 10-for-11 from the line in the game
- Adrian Myers recorded a career-high 20 points, eight rebounds and four threes and shot 8-for-11 off the bench in the Spartans' win over San Diego (12/5)
- Jermaine Washington is the team's leading three point shooter this season, knocking down 2.2 threes per game, good for the seventh most in the MW
- Washington is shooting just under 40 percent from beyond the arc at .393
- Washington is averaging the third most minutes per game in the Mountain West this season. His averages of 11.5 points and 3.2 assists per game are big jumps from last season when he averaged 4.4 ppg and 1.0 apg
- Pasha Goodarzi is shooting .545 from three this season
- Freshman Melvin Bell Jr. was entered into the starting lineup after Ben Roseborough went down with an injury. Since entering the starting lineup, Bell has averaged 6.7 ppg and has grabbed five steals, including three steals against Stanford
- Marcus Overstreet is averaging 17.0 rebounds per 40 minutes, the highest on the team
