SAN JOSE, Calif. - Colby Garland tied his career-high 30 points, finishing a perfect 14-for-14 at the free-throw line to lead the San José State men’s basketball team (5-8, 0-2 MW) in an 81-68 loss to San Diego State (8-4, 2-0 MW) Tuesday night from the Provident Credit Union Event Center.
San José State shot 40.0 percent from the field in the first half and would trail by as many as 11, but went into the break down 42–38. The Spartans briefly took the lead midway through the second half, but San Diego State responded with a late run to secure the game.
San José State won the free-throw battle, converting 22-of-24 attempts (91.7 percent), and matched San Diego State with 15 second-chance points. The Spartans also forced 16 turnovers. The Aztecs finished with a 44–22 advantage in points in the paint and scored 24 fast-break points, while also holding San José State to 28.6 percent shooting in the second half.
