Explosive First Half Pushes Spartans Past San Diego

SAN JOSE, Calif. - Adrian Myers recorded a career-high 20 points and eight rebounds, Colby Garland tallied 20 points, eight rebounds and five assists and Yaphet Moundi notched his fifth double-double of the season to lead the San José State men’s basketball team (4-5, 0-0 MW) in a 86-69 victory over San Diego (3-5, 0-0 WCC) Friday night from Provident Credit Union Event Center.

The Spartans opened the game on a 15-0 run and finished the first half with 52 points on 65.5% shooting and with an 18 point lead. In the second half, San Diego would cut the lead to as few as 11, but the Spartans weathered the storm and came away with the victory. 

SJSU finished the night shooting 54.5% overall, 36.8% from deep, and scoring 38 points in the paint. The Spartans also outrebounded the Toreros 45-30.

  • This marks the first Spartan victory over San Diego since 2015
  • The last time the Spartans’ opened the game on a double-digit scoring run was on Jan. 30, 2021 when they opened on a 10-0 run against Air Force
