Spartans and Falcons Face Off Saturday on NBC Sports Bay Area

SPARTANS HOSTING FALCONS ON SATURDAY:  The San José State women’s basketball team returns to the Provident Credit Union Event Center Saturday for a Mountain West game against Air Force. The Spartans won last year’s meeting in San Jose, 90-84, scoring the most points against a Division I opponent since the team scored 95 against Nevada on February 19, 2014.

San José State enters the game with a 2-14 overall record and 0-5 mark in the Mountain West. The team is looking for its first conference win of the season after falling at Fresno State, 67-52, Wednesday night. Carla Fuster and Allie Cummins led the team with 11 points each. The Spartans outscored the Bulldogs, 29-21, in the second half and made a season-high 24 free throws on a season-high 32 attempts.

ABOUT AIR FORCE:  The Falcons enter Saturday’s game with a 7-8 overall record and a 1-4 MW mark. The team’s conference win came at home over Nevada, 61-45. Air Force has lost Wednesday night, 70-59, to Boise State. Head coach Stacy McIntyre is in her second year at the school.

M. ANDERSON LEADING THE SPARTANS:  Maya Anderson leads San José State in scoring with 211 points, 13.2 per game. She has led the team in points scored in eight games including a career-best 29 points in a win over Sacramento State. She has scored in double figures in 11 games this season.

Anderson also leads the team with 103 rebounds, 6.4 per game. She has led the team in boards in seven games - 8 at BYU, 9 against UC Santa Barbara, 12 versus Cal State Monterey Bay, 7 against Sacramento State and at Fresno State, and 9 against GCU and New Mexico

BLOCK PARTY!: San José State is among the top-70 teams in the country in blocked shots with 68, 4.3 pg. The Spartans blocked a season-high nine blocks in the game at Pepperdine on November 23.  The nine blocks are the most by a Mountain West team this season and the most by an SJSU team since the nine recorded in a 72-49 win at Air Force on January 20, 2016.

Gabriela Pato leads the team with 22 blocks, including four against Saint Mary’s, while Kaliyah Dillard is second with 15, starting the season with three at BYU.

Maya Anderson has led the team in scoring in eight games, while Rylei Waugh led the team in three games. Amira Brown scored 12 points in the win at CBU and 16 points against New Mexico. Gabriela Pato scored 11 to lead the Spartans at No. 21 Washington. Katarina Anderson came off the bench at California and scored 10 points to lead SJSU. Stella Sgro scored a career-best 12 points off the bench at Wyoming. Carla Fuster and Allie Cummins each had 11 points at Fresno State.
