TEMPE, Ariz.—Mikaela Pitts anchored the vault team with an event-winning 9.925 vault as the San José State women’s gymnastics team scored a 195.175 to win the season-opening meet hosted by Arizona State with UC Davis.
- Saving the best for last, the vault team posted the best team score of the meet with a 49.125, tying for the third-best vault score in school history. Pitts won the event with her 9.925, followed by freshman Sophie Patterson, who had a 9.875. Devyn Valuch and Samantha Macasu each had a 9.800, while Ava Johnson and Kaviana Jurries each had a 9.725.
- Pitts is the fourth Spartan to post a 9.925 on vault, the second-highest vault score in school history.
- San José State started the day on bars with a 48.800. Samantha Macasu won her first collegiate event title as she recorded a 9.825 in her first collegiate bars routine.
- Freshmen Victoria Kisch (9.800), Genesis PeBenito (9.750) and Sophie Patterson (9.725) started their collegiate careers with their bar routines.
- The beam team scored a 48.550, led by Marissa Ashton with a 9.775.
- Ava Johnson led the floor team with a career-best 9.850, and the floor team posted a 48.700. Kaylee Larson made her Spartan debut with a 9.750.
- The Spartans then solidified the 195.175 team score on vault.
