SPARTANS FACE MW LEADER WEDNESDAY: The San José State women’s basketball team hosts Mountain West co-leader UNLV this Wednesday night inside the Provident Credit Union Event Center. The Lady Rebels bring a perfect 6-0 conference record into the game. The two schools have been conference foes for many years, starting with the PCAA/Big West, Western Athletic Conference for three years and the Mountain West since 2013-14.
San José State enters the game with a 2-15 overall record and 0-6 mark in the Mountain West. The team is looking for its first conference win of the season after falling to Air Force, 76-57, this past Saturday. Maya Anderson led the Spartans with 17 points and nine rebounds, while Amira Brown added 12 points and nine rebounds.
ABOUT UNLV: The Rebels enter Wednesday night’s game tied atop the conference standings with a 6-0 MW mark and 11-5 overall record. The team won at Wyoming, 82-53, this past Saturday. Head coach Lindy La Roque is in her sixth season at the school, but may be familiar to Bay Area women’s basketball fans. She played four years at Stanford (2008-12), advancing to the championship game in 2010, and was on Tara VanDerveer’s staff for three seasons (2017-20).

The Spartans swept the season series in 2019-20. SJSU won 76-63 at UNLV to end the regular season and then opened MW Tournament play with a 67-48 victory over the Lady Rebels in a quarterfinal game.

M. ANDERSON LEADING THE SPARTANS: Maya Anderson leads San José State in scoring with 228 points, 13.4 per game. She has led the team in points scored in nine games including a career-best 29 points in a win over Sacramento State. She has scored in double figures in 12 games this season.
Anderson also leads the team with 112 rebounds, 6.6 per game. She has led the team in boards in seven games - 8 at BYU, 9 against UC Santa Barbara, 12 versus Cal State Monterey Bay, 7 against Sacramento State and at Fresno State, and 9 against GCU, New Mexico and Air Force.
