SAN JOSE, Calif. - Melvin Bell Jr. recorded career-highs of 22 points and eight rebounds while playing all 40 minutes to lead the San José men’s basketball team (6-12, 1-6 MW) in a 76-62 loss to UNLV (9-8, 4-2 MW) Saturday afternoon from the Provident Credit Union Event Center.

The Spartans, playing without four starters, stayed within striking distance early, leading 20-19 early, but trailing 40–31 at the half. UNLV extended their lead to 16 to open the second half. The Spartans would cut the deficit to as few as three points, but were unable to get any closer.

Adrian Myers finished with 12 points and four rebounds, while Marcus Overstreet provided a spark off the bench with 10 points and five rebounds in just over 16 minutes of action.

San José State shot 41.3 percent from the field and connected on 6-of-11 attempts from three-point range. The Spartans also converted 18-of-21 free throws and held a 31–22 advantage in total rebounds.

  • Myers was 3-for-6 from the field, 2-for-2 from three and 4-for-4 from the foul line
