SAN JOSE, Calif.—Maya Anderson led all scorers with 15 points, and Allie Cummins made two free throws with 10 seconds remaining to seal the win for the San José State women’s basketball team, 60-57, over Nevada Wednesday night in a Mountain West contest at the Provident Credit Union Event Center.
The Spartans (3-17, 1-8) trailed 57-56 with 46 seconds remaining in the game. Anderson came down and made a layup with 32 seconds left to give SJSU the 58-57 lead over the Wolf Pack (7-12, 3-6). Nevada missed a shot with 18 seconds left, and McKenna Simons grabbed her second rebound of the game to give SJSU the ball with 14 seconds left.
San José State inbounded the ball and Cummins dribbled around the key before getting fouled and making both free throw shots with 10 seconds left for the 60-57 lead. Nevada missed one last shot, a three-pointer, but got the offensive rebound with 0.5 left on the clock but could not inbound the ball for any chance.
- Anderson led all scorers with her 15 points. She also grabbed seven rebounds and a career-best five steals.
- Stella Sgro led a trio of Spartans with seven or more rebounds as she led the team with a career-best nine boards, eight defensive rebounds. She also dished out four assists and scored five points in the win.
- Amira Brown contributed nine points, grabbed eight rebounds and dished out three assists.
- Nine Spartans scored in the game, including Simons who had a season-high eight points.
- Gabriela Pato and Amelie Sitterud each blocked a shot for the Spartans.
