BERKELEY, Calif.—Darcy Spark was the top goal scorer for the No. 12 San José State women’s water polo team on day one of the Brigette Donner Daws Memorial Invitational hosted by California on Saturday.
The Spartans fell to No. 9 Fresno State, 10-8, in the team’s first match of the day. Spark scored four times, twice in the first and fourth quarters. Jennine Osorio scored twice in the fourth quarter, one goal on a 6-on-4 situation. Sarah Woren scored the first goal of the match, and Emma Ruzic also found the back of the net.
In the final match of the day, the Spartans were held scoreless in the fourth quarter in an 11-8 loss to No. 16 UC Davis. Seven Spartans scored in the match with Spark finding the back of the net twice. The two teams were tied 5-5 at halftime before the Aggies took a 9-8 lead in the third quarter and held SJSU scoreless in the fourth quarter. Rose Jensen got the Spartans on the board with a natural goal with 6:14 left in the first quarter.
UP NEXT – The Spartans continue play at the Brigette Donner Daws Memorial Invitational on Sunday with an exhibition match against USA Academy at 11 a.m., and versus host No. 4 California at 5 p.m.
