TRIP TO THE CENTRAL VALLEY THIS WEEK: The San José State women’s basketball team takes its first road trip of the 2026 calendar year as the Spartans travel to the Central Valley to face Fresno State Wednesday night. SJSU is looking for some success at the Save Mart Center as the team has won just once since the building opened in 2003.
San José State enters the game with a 2-13 overall record and 0-4 mark in the Mountain West. The team is looking for their first conference win of the season after falling to New Mexico, 89-51, this past Saturday inside the Provident Credit Union Event Center. Amira Brown led the team with 16 points, while Maya Anderson and Stella Sgro each had 11 points.
ABOUT FRESNO STATE: The Bulldogs enter Wednesday night’s game with a 7-8 overall record and 1-3 mark in the Mountain West. The team fell at Colorado State, 86-83, this past Saturday. The team’s only conference win came at home on December 20 against Wyoming, 53-36. Head coach Ryan McCarthy is in his first year at the helm of the program after spending the past 13 seasons at Alaska Anchorage, where he amassed a 309-67 coaching record.

M. ANDERSON LEADING THE SPARTANS: Maya Anderson leads San José State in scoring with 202 points, 13.5 per game. She has led the team in points scored in eight games including a career-best 29 points in a win over Sacramento State. She has scored in double figures in 11 games this season.
Anderson also leads the team with 96 rebounds, 6.4 per game. She has led the team in boards in six games - 8 at BYU, 9 against UC Santa Barbara, 12 versus Cal State Monterey Bay, 7 against Sacramento State, and 9 against GCU and New Mexico
CAREER DAY FOR M. ANDERSON: Maya Anderson recorded her best scoring game as a Spartan with 29 points in the team’s 61-56 win over Sacramento State on December 21. She was 12-for-21 from the field and 2-for-7 from three-point range. Anderson scored 19 of her 29 points in the first half including 10 points in the first quarter.
FOR THREEEE, FOR DAYS: San José State attempted 40 three-pointers at Utah State on December 30, the second-highest total since 2016 and the highest by a team in the Mountain West this season. The 40 attempts is the most since the 2016-17 team attempted a school-record 43 threes against Saint Mary’s on December 3, 2016.
ANDERSON ONE AWAY FROM RECORD: At Utah State on December 31, Maya Anderson attempted 14 three-pointers in the game. Her 14 are the most attempted by a Spartan since Sabrina Ma tied the school record with 15 attempts against Bethesda. Ma and former Spartan Natalie White own the San José State record at 15. Anderson is tied for second in the Mountain West in threes attempted in a game.

Newcomer Carla Fuster has made 10 threes in her first season in a Spartan uniform.
