SAN JOSE, Calif.– Colby Garland put up 24 points, shooting 8-of-13 from the field, to lead the San José State men’s basketball team (6-16, 1-10 MW) in a 90-80 loss to New Mexico (18-4, 9-2 MW) Saturday night from the Provident Credit Union Event Center, presented by El Camino Health.

The Spartans trailed by six at halftime and continued to battle throughout the second half, cutting the deficit to as few as five points on multiple occasions. San José State shot 46.8 percent from the field and knocked down 11 three-pointers, while scoring 31 bench points. The Spartans also generated 15 second-chance points and only turned the ball over five times, a season low.

Jermaine Washington added 18 points, including four three-pointers, while Melvin Bell Jr. chipped in 10 points and seven rebounds. Sadraque NgaNga also recorded 11 points and seven rebounds off the bench.
