Garland and Goodarzi Each Score 20-Plus in Loss at UNLV

LAS VEGAS – Colby Garland recorded 23 points and Pasha Goodarzi scored a career-high 21 points to lead the San José State men’s basketball team (6-18, 1-12 MW) in a 82-75 loss to UNLV (12-12, 7-6 MW) Tuesday night from the Thomas & Mack Center.

San José State erased an early nine-point deficit and took a three point lead in the first half, but trailed just 45-41 at halftime. The Spartans tied the game at 49-49 early in the second half, but UNLV used a 13-6 run midway through the period to build its largest lead of 13 points with 8:56 remaining. San José State closed the gap to three points in the final three minutes, but could not complete the comeback.

Melvin Bell Jr. recorded nine points and four rebounds. Sadraque NgaNga tallied nine points and eight rebounds off the bench. The Spartans played only seven guys as multiple players were sidelined with injuries. Both Garland and Goodarzi played all 40 minutes.
