MORAGA, Calif.– Freshman Camila Celis outlasted her opponent in a tight three-set battle to clinch a 4-2 victory for the San José State women’s tennis team (4-0, 0-0 MW) against Saint Mary’s (1-4, 0-0 WCC) on Friday afternoon from the Timothy Korth Tennis Complex.
After dropping the doubles point early in the match, the Spartans battled fiercely in singles to fight for the win. Following more than three hours of grueling competition, the Spartans secured straight-set victories on courts one and four, setting the stage for Celis to clinch the match.
- Celis overcame her opponent, 2-6, 6-2, 7-5
- On court one, Duru Durgun defeated her opponent, 6-4, 6-2
- Tara Mihaljevic took the lead, winning on court four in straight sets, 6-3, 7-5
- Mihaljevic and Celis fell short in their doubles match, 6-4
- Both Celis and Mihaljevic are now 4-0 in dual singles play
- Durgun and doubles partner Emma Fantousis dropped their match, 6-1
- Fantousis was bested by her opponent in singles play, 6-2, 6-1
- Cristina Mateos Losada won by default on court six
