SAN JOSE, Calif. – Colby Garland tallied 29 points, including four three-pointers, and added nine assists in 40 minutes of action and Adrian Myers contributed career-highs 21 points and 13 rebounds to lead the San José State men’s basketball team (7-19, 2-13 MW) in a 87-71 victory over Nevada (17-9, 9-6 MW) Tuesday night from Provident Credit Union Event Center. 

San José State never trailed, controlling the game from the opening tip and leading for 39:18 of the contest. The Spartans built an 18-point first-half advantage and took a 47-32 lead into the break before matching Nevada’s 39 second-half points to secure the 16-point win.

The Spartans were efficient offensively, shooting 30-of-58 (51.7 percent) from the field and 15-of-29 (51.7 percent) from three-point range. The Spartans recorded 18 assists on 30 made field goals. The Spartans also outscored Nevada 19-11 in second-chance points.

Sadraque NgaNga added 15 points on 5-of-8 shooting. Melvin Bell Jr. chipped in 11 points and seven rebounds as four Spartans finished in double figures.

With the win, Head Coach Tim Miles now has 50 Mountain West conference victories in his career, tying him with Dave Pilipovich for 11th most all-time.

  • This marks the first Spartan win over Nevada since March 9, 2023 when they defeated Nevada 81-77 in the Mountain West tournament quarterfinals
  • This also is the first Spartan win over Nevada at home since Jan. 8, 2020 
  • The Spartans made 15 threes, the most in a game since they made 15 at San Diego State on Jan. 28, 2025
  • The Spartans held the Wolfpack to 3-for-20 from three 
  • Garland has now scored 20 or more in five consecutive games for the second time this season, becoming the first Spartan to accomplish the feat since Adrian Oliver did it during the 2009-10 season
  • Garland has now scored 20 points or more 13 times out of 22 games this season 
  • Garland’s nine assists and three steals both tied his season-highs
  • Garland shot 4-for-5 from three in the game, making him 9-for-13 from three in his last three games
  • In addition to career-highs in points and rebounds, Myers made a career-high five threes and recorded his first career double-double
  • Myers’ 13 rebounds is tied for the most recorded by a Spartan in a game this season
  • NgaNga’s 15 points tied his season-high while his three made threes tied his career-high
  • Pasha Goodarzi hit two threes, extending his streak of multiple made threes in a game to six games
  • Off the bench, Douglas Langford recorded five points, five rebounds, three assists and three blocks
  • The Spartans’ five total blocks in the game was a season-high
