Two Records Broken on Day 1 of MW Championships

HOUSTON—Two San José State records were broken, including Ela Freiman in the 200 IM, on the first day of the Credit Union 1 Mountain West Championships in Houston. 

  • Freiman finished fourth in the 200 IM in a time of 1:58.99, breaking her own record of 1:59.59, set in November in the same pool. She is the only Spartan to break the 2-minute barrier in the 200 IM.
  • Genevieve George finished seventh in the 200 IM at 2:00.76.
  • Dalton Sickon matched her season-best time of 23.05 to finish 15th in the 50 free.
  • Lais e Silva finished 24th in the 50 free at 23.33.
  • Diver Elinor Windram finished 13th in 1-meter, recording her season-best score.
  • The 400 medley relay team ended the evening by breaking a 12-year-old record. The relay team of George, Vilma Lindberg, Grover and Sickon finished in 3:38.91, breaking the record of 3:38.98 set by Michaela McLean, Darcie Anderson, Ashlyn Acosta and Alysha Bush in 2014.
  • The Spartans finished the day in 9th place in the team standings.

UP NEXT – The second day of the championships begins Thursday with prelims in the 100 fly, 400 IM and 200 free, along with 3-meter diving at 10:30 a.m. CT/8:30 a.m. PT. Finals begin at 6 p.m. CT/4 p.m. PT, finishing with the 200 free relay.
