SAN JOSE, Calif.—Maya Anderson recorded her third 20-point game of the season, and Katarina Anderson hit a free throw with 22 seconds remaining to help the San José State women’s basketball team clinch a 58-56 win over Utah State at the Provident Credit Union Event Center Wednesday night.
- Maya Anderson led all scorers with 22 points as she went 7-for-13 from the field and 6-for-9 from the free throw line.
- Allie Cummins was the other Spartan in double figures with 11 points and was 3-for-8 from three-point range.
- Both players had key three-point shots to end a quarter for SJSU. Anderson hit a three from the top of the key as time expired in the first quarter, while Cummins hit her three from the right-side elbow as the buzzer hit zero to end the first half.
- Kaliyah Dillard grabbed a career-high 11 rebounds to lead SJSU in 18 minutes played.
- Katarina Anderson and Stella Sgro each scored seven points in the win. Anderson dished out a team-high five assists.
- The Spartans lead at the end of every quarter and by as many as 14 points in the second quarter as Maya Anderson made a layup to make the score 30-16 with 1:40 left.
Utah State took its only lead of the game at 54-53 with 2:08 remaining, but SJSU took the lead back on two made free throws by Katarina Anderson at the 1:56 mark. Cummins extended the lead to 57-54 with a jump shot in the paint at 1:08. The Aggies made a layup with 28 seconds left, but Anderson sealed the win with her free throw with 22 seconds left. USU had one more chance but missed a three-point shot with 6 seconds remaining. Cummins grabbed the rebound but was tied up, giving the ball to SJSU with 0.4 left on the clock.
