Pitts Wins Vault As Spartans Score 196.100 on Sunday

SAN JOSE, Calif.—Mikaela Pitts won her third vault title of the season, and the San José State women’s gymnastics team recorded a 196.100, the 16th highest team score in history, in a tri-meet with Air Force and UC Davis at the Provident Credit Union Event Center.

  • Pitts scored a 9.850 on vault to win the vault title for the second consecutive meet.
  • Samantha Macasu led the bars team with a career-best 9.875.
  • The beam team scored a 49.100, led by Sophie Patterson, who tied her career high with a 9.875.
  • Ava Johnson anchored the floor team with a 9.875, as the Spartans scored a 49.075.
  • SJSU scored a 196.100 for the first time in school history and ranks 16th on the all-time list. It is the second consecutive week that SJSU recorded a top-16 score in school history.
  • The meet featured the Air Force Academy, which set its school record with a 196.300. UC Davis scored a 192.825.

UP NEXT – The Spartans perform twice in the next week. The team travels to Sacramento on Friday, the 27th, for a tri-meet with the Hornets and California beginning at 6:30 p.m. SJSU hosts its final meet of the season next Sunday, March 1, with Boise State, Arizona State and Sacramento State. The meet begins at 2 p.m., inside the Provident Credit Union Event Center. Tickets are available at the Box Office the day of the meet, and youth 12 and under are FREE.
