Colby Garland Named Old Trapper Mountain West Player of the Week

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.Colby Garland has been named the Old Trapper Mountain West Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday morning. Garland is the first Spartan to receive the award since Omari Moore on Feb. 27, 2023.

Across the Spartans' two games last week, Garland totaled 51 points, 14 assists, five rebounds and four steals while shooting .559 from the field, .444 from three-point range and .900 from the free-throw line in 80 minutes of action. In the Spartans' win over Nevada, Garland recorded 29 points, nine assists and three steals, shooting 4-for-5 from beyond the arc. Against Boise State, he added 22 points and five assists while shooting 52.9 percent from the field.

Garland is averaging 19.4 points per game this season, ranking second in the Mountain West and 46th nationally. He has scored 20 or more points 14 times this season, including in six consecutive games, becoming the first Spartan since Adrian Oliver in 2011 to accomplish the feat. In addition to ranking as the conference’s second-leading scorer, Garland is sixth in field goal percentage, fourth in assists per game and fourth in assist-to-turnover ratio.

The Spartans will next face Air Force on Tuesday, Feb. 24, at 6 p.m. PT at Clune Arena. The game will be broadcast on the Mountain West Network.
