SJSU Football Announces 13-Game 2026 Regular Season; Opens at USC

SAN JOSE, Calif. – San José State will open the 2026 football season with a "Week Zero" matchup at USC on August 29, announced on Wednesday.

The 2026 campaign marks a significant milestone for the program, featuring the Spartans’ first 13-game regular season since 2017. Additionally, San José State will host seven home games at CEFCU Stadium—marking only the second time in the last three seasons, and just the second time since 2006, that the program has reached that number of home dates.

"We are excited to kick off the 2026 season on a national stage at USC," said Jeff Konya, SJSU Director of Athletics. "Playing a 13-game schedule with seven opportunities for our fans to see us at CEFCU Stadium is a testament to the growth and demand for Spartan Football. We look forward to a competitive year and the continued support of the San José community."

This opening matchup marks just the seventh meeting between the two programs. The Spartans last traveled to face the Trojans in 2023.

Fans won’t have to wait until August to see the team in action; the Spartans will host their annual Spring Game on April 18. Further details regarding kickoff times and fan activities for the spring game and the 2026 conference schedule will be released later.

2026 Non-Conference Schedule:

  • Aug. 29 at USC
  • Sept. 5 at Eastern Michigan
  • Sept. 12 vs. Cal Poly (CEFCU Stadium)
  • Sept. 19 vs. Fresno State (CEFCU Stadium)
  • Sept. 26 vs. Jax State (CEFCU Stadium)
