SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Delaney Faus pitched eight innings, surrendering only four hits and no runs, to lead the San José State softball team (5-11, 0-0 MW) to a 2-0 win in eight innings over Sacramento State (14-3, 0-0 Big Sky) on the first day of the Capital Classic from Shea Stadium.
Faus silenced the Hornets' bats, allowing just four hits and zero walks while throwing 77 of her 112 pitches for strikes. Her efficiency kept the Sacramento State offense off balance throughout the contest.
Spartans Break Through in the Eighth
After seven innings of scoreless defensive stalemate, the San José State offense found the spark they needed in the top of the eighth:
- Carly Cummings provided a massive lift with a triple to bring in Ahmiya Noriega.
- Reina Zermeno followed that up with a single to score Cummings from third.
- The last time the Spartans defeated the Hornets was on Feb. 25, 2023, 10-2 in five innings.
UP NEXT: The Spartans continue play in the Capital Classic in Sacramento, Calif., on Saturday with games against Sacred Heart at 9:30 a.m. and host Sacramento State at noon.
