Barahona and Mungali Lead Spartans in Opening Round of Amer Ari Invitational

KOHALA, Hawai‘i - Ivan Barahona and Keshav "KC" Mungali each fired an opening-round 68 (-4) to lead the San José State men’s golf team at the Amer Ari Invitational on Thursday. Hosted at the Mauna Lani Resort, the Spartans finished the day in 14th place with a team score of 279 (-9).

Individual Highlights

Barahona & Mungali: The duo is tied for 28th place. Barahona powered his round with a team-high seven birdies, while Mungali turned in a remarkably clean scorecard as the only Spartan to go bogey-free on Thursday.

Avinash Iyer: Closely following the leaders, Iyer carded a 3-under 69 to end the round tied for 42nd. His day was highlighted by the Spartans' only eagle of the tournament thus far.

Christian Maggard & Jed Dy: Both carded rounds of 74 (+2) and will enter the second round in a tie for 98th place.

Individual Competitors

Two Spartans are competing individually this week:

Xuan Luo: Finished the day with a 77 (+5).

Itai Cohen: Carded an opening-round 79 (+7).

UP NEXT: The Spartans play in the second round of the Amer Ari Invitational hosted at the Mauna Lani Resort on Friday.
