Durgun Leads Spartans in 6-1 Victory Against Pacific

STOCKTON, Calif.— Duru Durgun won her matchup in court one in straight sets to lead the San José State women's tennis team (3-0, 0-0 MW) in a 6-1 win over the University of the Pacific (0-5, 0-0 WCC) on Friday afternoon at the Eve Zimmerman Tennis Center. 

The Spartans won the doubles point and proceeded to clinch the win by winning five singles matches. Courts one, five and six quickly set the pace by winning in straight sets as games on courts three and four came down to the third set. 

  • Durgun and doubles partner Emma Fantousis won, 6-3.
  • Soledad Fayos Capilla and Cristina Mateos Losada won, 6-4.
  • Durgun took charge and won in her singles match, 6-4, 6-3. 
  • Fantousis had a comeback on court three, 2-6, 6-2, 6-1. 
  • On court four, Tara Mihaljevic won in a tight three-set match 3-6, 6-2, 6-3. 
  • Camila Celis defeated her opponent quickly on court five, 6-4, 6-3.
  • With these wins, freshmen Mihaljevic and Celis extend their record to 3-0 in dual singles play. 
  • Mateos Losada won on court six, 6-2, 6-3.
  • Fayos Capilla fell short in her singles match, 6-2, 5-7, 2-6
