STANFORD, Calif. - Delaney Faus pitched six innings while only allowing three hits and one run to lead San José State softball (1-4, 0-0 MW) in a 1-0 loss to Cal (1-3, 0-0 ACC), in the final game of the Stanford Invitational.
The contest was a defensive stalemate for much of the morning, with both teams remaining scoreless through the first five innings. The Spartans’ defense was sharp, committing zero errors throughout the contest.
Cal broke the deadlock in the bottom of the sixth inning when Kyndal Todd hit a sacrifice fly to drive in the game's only run.
The loss snaps the Spartans' two-game winning streak over the Golden Bears.
- Pitching Performance: Faus threw 61 pitches, 46 of which were strikes, while striking out two batters in her first-ever complete game.
- Offensive Spark: Reina Zermeno provided the primary offensive highlight for the Spartans, recording a double off Cal’s Mya McGowan. Zermeno finished the day with two total bases.
- Carly Cummings, Sarah Deplitch, and Ahmiya Noriega each reached base safely and each contributed one of the Spartans' four hits on the day.
