SAN JOSE, Calif. – Colby Garland recorded 28 points on 10-of-17 shooting to go along with eight assists and two steals in 40 minutes of action to lead the San José State men’s basketball team (8-21, 3-15 MW) in a 85-73 loss to Colorado State (19-10, 10-8 MW) Saturday afternoon from the Provident Credit Union Event Center.
The Spartans took an early five point lead, but trailed 42-37 at halftime after Colorado State knocked down six threes on 11 attempts in the opening 20 minutes. The Spartans responded early in the second half and took a 55-54 lead with 12:26 remaining. However, the Spartans went cold down the stretch and were unable to get stops as the Rams shot 70 percent from the field compared to SJSU’s 38.5 percent in the second half.
Garland scored 19 of his 28 points in the second half. Melvin Bell Jr. added 15 points and six rebounds in the game. Adrian Myers and Sadraque NgaNga each finished with 10 points.
- Garland has now scored 20 or more points in eight consecutive games, the longest streak for the Spartans since Olivier Saint-Jean had a 14 game 20 or more scoring streak in 1996-97

- The Spartans won the turnover battle 11-6, giving SJSU a 16-6 advantage in points off turnovers
