Colby Garland Named Third Team All-Mountain West

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Colby Garland has been named Third Team All-Mountain West, the conference announced on Tuesday. This marks the second consecutive season a Spartan has been named Third Team All-Mountain West and the third Spartan to be named to an all-conference team under Head Coach Tim Miles

Offensively, Garland had one of the best statistical seasons in SJSU history. At 20.3 points per game, Garland was the Mountain West's second leading scorer. He also averaged 4.6 assists and 3.1 rebounds per game while shooting .497 from the field, .386 from three and .840 from the line on the season. Garland became the first Spartan since Olivier Saint-Jean in 1996-97 to score 20 or more points in 10 consecutive games.

Garland currently ranks as the 27th-highest scorer in the country. He is set to join Ricky Berry, Adrian Oliver, Richard Washington and Saint-Jean as the only Spartans in history to finish a season top 50 in the nation in scoring. Garland has recorded 547 total points this season, the seventh most in a season in SJSU history.

The Spartans enter the Mountain West Tournament as the No. 11 seed and will face the No. 6 seed Boise State in the tournament's opening round on Wednesday, March 11, at 8:30 p.m. PT from the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. The game can be watched on Mountain West Network and can be heard on KTRB 860 AM.

  • In his POTW campaign, Garland led the Spartans to a 1-1 record, including a 16 point win over Nevada. Garland averaged 25.5 points, seven assists and 2.5 rebounds per game, while shooting 55.9 percent (19-for-34) from the field and 44.4 percent (4-of-9) from long range
  • Scored 30 points twice this season against UC Santa Barbara (Nov. 8) and San Diego State (Dec. 30)
  • Garland is the first Spartan to score 30 points or more multiple times in a season since Richard Washington in 2020-21
  • Garland broke the SJSU record for most free throws made consecutively with 37. The previous record for most free throws made consecutively was 31 set by Carroll Williams in 1955
  • Averaged 12.1 points and 4.4 assists in 29.3 minutes per game last season at Longwood
  • Earned a spot on the Missouri Valley Conference All-Bench Team his freshman season at Drake
