LAS VEGAS – Colby Garland recorded 20 points, seven assists, five rebounds and two steals to lead the No. 11 seeded San José State men’s basketball team (9-24, 3-13 MW) in a 93-77 loss to the No. 3 seed New Mexico (23-9, 13-7 MW) Thursday night from the Thomas and Mack Center in the quarterfinals of the Mountain West Tournament. With the loss, the 2025-26 season for SJSU men’s basketball comes to an end.
The first half was back-and-forth, featuring 12 lead changes and four ties. A three from Sadraque NgaNga gave the Spartans a two point lead midway through the first half which would be their largest lead of the game. The Lobos ended the half on a 10-3 three run and took a 43-36 lead into halftime.
The Lobos pulled ahead in the second half, building their lead to as many as 22. The Lobos shot 67.7 percent and forced seven Spartan turnovers in the second half. For the game, New Mexico outrebounded the Spartans 38-24 and had a 56-24 points in the paint advantage.
Jermaine Washington added 11 points and six assists while Adrian Myers tallied 19 points and six rebounds. NgaNga also chipped in with 15 points.
- The Spartans have now fallen to the Lobos in the Mountain West Tournament quarterfinals two years in a row
- Garland scored 20 points or more in 12 straight games, the longest streak for the Spartans since Olivier Saint-Jean scored 20-plus in 14 consecutive games in 1996-97
- Garland finished the season with 589 points, the sixth most in a season in SJSU history
- Myers finished the season with nine straight games scoring in double-figures
- NgaNga’s 15 points tied his season-high and his three made threes tied his career-high
- Washington’s six assists tied his career-high
- Washington and Melvin Bell Jr. played all 40 minutes
- The Spartans hit 10 threes in the game, tied for the most they have ever made in a Mountain West Tournament game
