COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - David Thomas has been named Mountain West Pitcher of the Week, announced by the conference on Monday. This marks Thomas’ first career player of the week award and the first pitcher of the week award for the Spartans since Micky Thompson won it in May, 2024.

Thomas pitched six shutout innings in the Spartans' 1-0 series opening victory over New Mexico. He held the Lobos to six hits and one walk and struck out five batters while on the mound. Thomas threw 77 pitches in his outing. This is the second shutout Thomas has been a part of this season, previously pitching a complete game shutout against Saint Mary’s on Feb. 28.

This past week, the Spartans walked it off in a 3-2 victory over Cal in the midweek and took their conference opening series against New Mexico 2-1. The Spartans will next host a double-header against UCONN and San Diego State on Friday, March 20, at Excite Ballpark. The Spartans’ game against SDSU is a non-conference game. Both games can be watched on Mountain West Network.
