Spartans Prepare For Busy String of Matches

SAN JOSE, Calif.— The San José State women's tennis team (6-5, 0-2 MW) will gear up to face an array of opponents, featuring Rhode Island (7-4, 0-0 A10) on Wednesday, and conference matchups, Air Force (4-10, 1-1 MW) on Friday and New Mexico (10-5, 1-1 MW) on Sunday. All games will be played from the Spartan Tennis Complex and kickoff at noon. 

In the previous week, the Spartans commenced conference play and fell short in contests against GCU, 5-0, and San Diego State, 4-0. 

  • Wednesday's match against Rhode Island marks the Spartans' first encounter against the Rams. 
  • Against the Falcons, the Spartans have won in the past three duels, with wins from Emma Fantousis and Soledad Fayos Capilla in doubles and Fayos Capilla in singles in last season's battle. 
  • In the Spartans' last appearance against the Lobos last year, they secured a sweep, with singles and doubles wins from Fantousis, Fayos Capilla and Duru Durgun
  • From court one, Durgun has a record of 5-3 in singles dual play.
  • On court six, Cristina Mateos Losada is 5-2 in singles dual play. 
  • Freshman Camila Celis is 6-4 from court five in singles dual play.
