Macasu Wins Bars To Lead Spartans at MW Championship Meet

BOISE, Idaho—San José State women’s gymnast Samantha Macasu found herself atop the podium at the 2026 Credit Union 1 Mountain West Championships as she won the bars and the Spartans finished third with a 195.800 Saturday evening at ExtraMile Arena in Boise.

Macasu tied her career-best with a 9.900 on bars to become the second Spartan to win a MW bars title. She follows Sophia Konieczny, who tied for first in 2024 with a 9.900.

The Spartans started the meet on bars with a 49.000, anchored by Macasu’s 9.900. Kaviana Jurries followed with a 9.800, Genesis PeBenito and Victoria Kisch at 9.775, Sophie Patterson at 9.750 and Devyn Valuch at 9.700.

The beam team started strong with Marissa Ashton and Macasu scoring a 9.850. Valuch and PeBentio had a 9.800, and Olivia Reardon scored a 9.575.

The floor team produced the highest Spartan team score with a 49.100, led by Kaylee Larson’s 9.850. Patterson and Ava Johnson each had a 9.825, while Ashton, Jurries and PeBenito each scored a 9.800.

The Spartans finished the night on vault with a 48.825. Kurries scored a team-best 9.800, followed by Mikaela Pitts and Johnson at 9.775, Patterson at 9.750, Valuch at 9.725 and Macasu at 9.625.
