
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Kyle Calzadiaz has been named Mountain West Pitcher of the Week, announced by the conference on Monday. This is the first time since 2005 the Spartans have won a pitcher of the week award in back-to-back weeks.
In the Spartans’ 3-2 victory over San Diego State last Friday, Calzadiaz tossed five shutout innings in relief. Additionally, he struck out five Aztec batters and allowed only two hits while on the mound. Calzadiaz holds an ERA of 6.48 so far this season and leads the team with 29 total strikeouts.
This past week, the Spartans won three out of the four games, taking both games against San Diego State and splitting two games against UCONN. The Spartans will return to action tomorrow, March 24, at 6 p.m. against Santa Clara at Stephen Schott Stadium. The game can be watched on ESPN+.
