STANFORD, Calif. - Led by a stellar performance from Keshav "KC" Mungali, the San José State men’s golf team opened play at The Goodwin on Thursday. Mungali carded a 4-under 66 at the Stanford Golf Course, placing him in a tie for sixth individually and keeping the Spartans within striking distance in a crowded 30-team field.
As a team, San José State posted a first-round score of 285 (+5), ending the day in a tie for 16th place.
The Leaderboard
Mungali was the engine for the Spartans on Thursday, navigating the challenging Stanford layout with precision to finish just a few strokes off the individual lead. He was joined in the red numbers by Avinash Iyer, who turned in a gritty 2-under 68. Iyer sits in a tie for 18th place heading into the second round.
- Ivan Barahona: Finished his opening round with a 75 (+5). He enters Friday’s second round in a tie for 122nd place in the massive 168-player field.
- Christian Maggard: Carded a 76 (+6) on Thursday, ending the first day of competition in a tie for 133rd place.
- Jed Dy: Battled through a tough opening day at the Stanford Golf Course, finishing with an 83 (+13).
- Xuan Luo: Rounded out the Spartan lineup on Thursday, carding an 89 (+19) in his first-round appearance as an individual.
